One of the most important Spray Tanning FAQs is, how long does it last? Getting sunless tan is not a lifetime commitment so depending on your skin type and your daily activities it can last between 5-8 days or even 10 days for the lucky ones. Your tan can last a whole season if you keep using tanning extenders.  These lotions have dihydroxyacetone (DHA) which will keep your skin looking healthy and brown. If your one of those people that loves to go swimming especially in a pool with chlorine or always scrubbing your skin in showers and shaving then don’t expect your tan to last 3 days.

There are many people who wonder what the difference is between cream tanning and spray tanning or airbrush tanning. There is a huge difference while tanning lotions don not reach some areas and causes blotches, spray tanning is the best to resemble a natural even tan. It’s harder to miss any spots when sprayed from 10 inches away from your skin with a mist spray gun. The mist reaches everywhere very evenly and doesn’t cause any blotches. Just picture yourself spraying a wall with spray paint or liquid painting with your hands, which reaches the corners better and which is more evenly?

To prepare for a spray tanning booth, you need to take a shower exfoliating your skin. Make sure your skin is clean and free of any chemicals. Lotions, deodorant, perfume or anything else on the skin can affect optimal results of a tan. These become a barrier on your skin and prevent the tan from absorbing.

Women can wear anything during a session depending on what kind of tan line they want to have. Men should wear swimming shorts or boxers. After application of the airbrush tan wear loose clothing made from cotton. Do not wear wool, silk or polyester. These can affect the DHA.

How long should you wait after sunless tanning before you take a shower or be active again? You should give your tan time to become dark, usually after 8 hours the DHA stops doing its work. So you can take a shower or go in water after waiting 8 hours.

Does UV free tanning work like sun block from the sun? No, UV free tanning does not give you protection from the sun. It is not intended to be used as a sun block. So if you have a spray tan and going to be in the sun make sure you always apply SPF sun block.
